The Ca' Tessera "agriturismo", a group of rural buildings around a lovely internal garden was originally a farmstead, built in the early 19th century and home to farming families until the 1970's. The owners, the Franchin family, have carried on the family passion, raising cattle for milk production and cultivating a large area of land, since the end of the 1800's. Listed in the register drawn up by the Austrians, Ca' Tessera now represents a modern holiday facility, deep in the countryside, within a short distance of the most beautiful city in the World, Venice.
At the end of the 19th Century Cavaliere Guiseppe Franchin, grandfather and namesake of the present owner, extended the farmstead, erecting the buildings that we can admire today.
In addition to the massive barns for storing machinery, as you pass along Via Triestina you notice the unusual form of Ca' Tessera, with its large portico where grandfather Giuseppe and papa' Mario Franchin used to make excellent local wines during the period of the grape harvest.
In the present day, the DOC (Denominatione di Origine Controllata) wine associated with the family is produced by Giuseppe Franchin's sister, the Baroness Ilaria Franchin Ciani Bassetti, at the castle of Roncade.
At the castle of Roncade, which boasts four splendid apartments created in its towers with views out across the battlements, you can savour an ambience where the history of the Veneto countryside can be enjoyed together with its cuisine and its excellent wines.
Ca' Tessera, obviously, also provides an ideal atmosphere for getting to know the traditional specialities, such as Schiavone, a special red wine produced from the local grape Raboso. Situated only five hundred metres from the Lagoon of Venice, Ca' tessera has always been in a strategic position to reach the historic centre of Venice quickly for the delivery of the farm's produce.
